I give thanks to the Lord for this short-term mission trip to Medan, Indonesia!
Indeed, compared to previous mission trips, this one was more challenging. Besides learning how to purchase flight tickets online and apply for visas, I also learned to serve together with brothers and sisters from Malaysia, building a “united” team ministry in the Lord. Although the mission trip and participation in the Hakka Conference lasted only ten short days, everyone cherished this opportunity to “serve the Lord.” The transition from unfamiliarity at the beginning to reluctance to part at the end remains vividly clear!
God’s arrangement is the most beautiful. Although the Taiwan short-term mission team was divided into two groups, our group was unable to carry out the original plan due to communication barriers in terms of “language.” However, the Lord enabled us to develop “adaptability” and a sensitivity to the leading of the “Holy Spirit,” something we had never experienced before in previous mission teams. Besides being thankful for the members of the first group, who carried God’s love, patience, faith, and obedient hearts, they enabled us to work together with the brothers and sisters of Bethel Church in the “Binjai” area to spread the “Gospel of God.”
Before departure, we led Sister Xiao Qing’s husband (Lei Hui Bin) to make a decision for Christ. During visits to five families, we also led 9 seekers to make decisions for Christ. On the last day, we visited a Chinese elderly home and led 13 elderly people to accept Jesus. Thank God for giving us the grace to minister in “Binjai” of Medan—a city with a population of about 280,000 people, under the jurisdiction of North Sumatra Province, located 22 kilometers west of Medan, where the majority of the people practice Islam.
(Isaiah 55:9) “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” God sent His workers (the Taiwan short-term mission team) to this place to “harvest” the fields that were already ripe! Thank God for His good will and all His wonderful works. I believe we all experienced the power of “prayer” through “team ministry,” and also experienced how the “Holy Spirit” placed a spirit of unity among us. Because of differences in ethnicity, language, and culture, we were able to “accept one another” and become one through the “power of the Holy Spirit.”
Today we also carry the authority that God has given us to “go” and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, so that people may repent and turn to Jesus, and together with Christ receive the abundant grace of being “crucified together, buried together, and resurrected together.” Through this wonderful short-term mission journey, I have developed a deeper reverence for God and have seen that He is raising up a group of mighty warriors from every nation, tribe, and people, breaking through barriers of language, customs, traditions, and culture, and joining together as the precious Body of “Christ.” In these last days, may we become soldiers of the Kingdom of Heaven, fighting the good fight for the Lord and bringing glory to the precious name of Christ. Amen!
